“Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it” Proverbs 22:6
Living in a world of science and technology, it is the greatest responsibility of the parents to take care of not only the physical and intellectual growth of the children but also their spiritual growth. As the proverb says “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom”. Sunday school is one of the best means of enhancing the spiritual growth of children. Sunday School academic year is from January to December. About 300 children (from preparatory (K.G) to 10) attend the Sunday school regularly. Textbooks are distributed free of cost to all children. We are following the curriculum set by the OSSAE – outside Kerala region, with which we are affiliated. Every Friday, after the Holy Qurbana, the Sunday school starts at 9.15 a.m. with the song session. This is then followed by prayer. After that, children go to the respective classes. Classes are up to 10.15 am and then they assemble in the hall for the concluding prayer. Through the Sunday school, they learn the Word of God, the main elements of Orthodox worship, church history, orthodox faith, traditions and so on. It really caters to the spiritual needs of the children. It enables them to grow in the discipline and instruction of the Lord. Children are reminded to observe the Lents during the Lenten time. Various competitions such as Bible reading, Bible quiz, music, elocution, memory verses writing competition etc. are conducted every year. Prizes for attendance are also awarded to encourage the children to come regularly. Sunday school students who top the CBSE and Kerala Board Exams are honored and awarded gold medals. Since the year 2005, Sunday School Final Certificate (SSFC) Examination for class X students is being conducted strictly by the Examination Board of OSSAE – OKR, Nagpur.
